"We make house calls"
Summerfield Trails Committee met on Wednesday 5/28/14and discussed parking locations along with current traffic concerns at the Summerfield Community Park where they were proposing a trail head. They have not selected the actual trail location and they have slowed the process down. They have stated they will seek easements along a possible trail location prior to committing to a trail location. Parking locations discussed were located near Strawberry Road and 220, land currently owned by the Town of Summerfield (adjacent the fire department), The Gables on Oak Ridge Road and the Gordon property that Summerfield is closing on this week. They will meet again on Wednesday, June 25 at 6:00 at the Summerfield Town Hall.
At the 6/10/14 Summerfield Town Council meeting council members stated they will not vote for eminent domain on any property owner in order for the A&Y Trail to be completed. At a recent trails committee meeting, County and City of Greensboro representatives working with the MPO and the town committee stated --that in order for the trails to be completed, "eminent domain" would be required using the original proposed route.

3/12/14 trails committee minutes :
"Ashton stated property acquisitions for a project of this size generally involve at least one condemnation of property. Impossible to know the trail route and gain all easements without a 25% design study. Several committee members stated their opposition to imminent domain as a means of securing property. Mayor Sessoms stated Council has not yet had decided to condemn any land, it has only been suggested as an alternative if needed."
On June 25, 2014-- The Trails committee voted to change the "original proposed" route and will be looking for an alternative route to complete the last leg of the southern trail, because the town council had frowned on using "Eminent Domain".
